From: Maryland Governor Wes Moore

ANNAPOLIS, MD - On May 16, 2025, Governor Wes Moore released the following statement on Moody’s U.S. Credit Rating Downgrade:

“I am disappointed??, but not surprised that the United States also received a Trump downgrade. The chaos from Washington that has wreaked havoc on our region is now impacting the entire nation. We in Maryland are showing that there’s a better way to govern.

“When faced with an historic fiscal challenge nearly a decade in the making, we turned a deficit into a surplus, gave the middle class tax relief, and reduced spending by over $2 billion–while?? continuing to invest in our people. This is while the federal government tanked the stock market, fired public servants for political gain, and chose ideological tariffs instead of a real economic growth plan. In Maryland, we will continue to work in partnership to set our state on a path to sustainable economic growth, despite this federal administration’s failure to do the same.”
