TALLAHASSEE, FL - On February 14, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Charbel Barakat to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees.

Barakat is the Corporate Vice President and Counsel for Public Policy with D.R. Horton, Inc. Active in his community, he is a Commissioner for the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission, was the former Vice Chair of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, and member of the Florida Development Finance Corporation. Barakat earned his bachelor’s degree in international studies from Johns Hopkins University and his juris doctor from New York University.
 
This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
