Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Two to the Commission for Independent Education

TALLAHASSEE, FL - On July 22, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Steven Litvack and the reappointment of Nelson Caballero to the Commission for Independent Education.

Steven Litvack

Litvack is the President, Chief Legal Counsel, and a member of the Board of Trustees for Jersey College and a Chancellor of Sabal College. Active in his community, he is the Vice President of the North Shore Police Athletic League and is a member of the Council on Occupational Education Appeal Panel. Litvack earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and his juris doctor from Harvard University. 

Nelson Caballero

Caballero is the Vice President of the South Florida Institute of Technology. Previously, he was a Partner at Caballero, Fierman, Llerena & Garcia, LLP., and a Financial Accounting Instructor at Miami Dade College. Caballero earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida International University.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
