From: Oklahoma Governor J Kevin Stitt

On December 02, 2024, Governor Kevin Stitt announced pastor and former Oklahoma lawmaker Tom Newell as his new chief of staff, bringing decades of experience in public service, ministry, and policy advocacy to the Governor’s Office.

“Tom is a proven leader with a true understanding of what makes Oklahoma strong,” said Governor Stitt. “Tom’s passion for serving others, commitment to our values, and his extensive policy expertise make him the perfect person to help guide my administration into this next chapter. He has served Oklahomans as a pastor, a legislator, and a champion for families- and I’m excited to welcome him as my chief of staff.”

Newell most recently served as vice president for the Center for Culture and Family at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA), developing and advocating for policies that empower Oklahoma families. He previously served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016, becoming the first Republican elected to represent House District 28.

“I am honored to join Governor Stitt’s team as chief of staff,” said Newell. “The Governor has demonstrated unwavering leadership in making Oklahoma a top ten state for families, freedom, and opportunity. I look forward to working alongside him and our entire staff to deliver on his vision for Oklahoma.”

Prior to his time in public office, Newell pastored churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. Since leaving the legislature, Newell had served as the government affairs director for the Foundation for Government Accountability, the CEO of SALLT (Salt and Light Leadership Training), and the vice president of government affairs for Yes. Every. Kid.

Newell received his undergraduate degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministries from Mid-America Christian University before earning an MBA from Liberty University. Tom Newell and his wife, Erin, reside just outside of Oklahoma City.

After years of dedicated service to the State of Oklahoma, Grayson Walker will pursue opportunities in the private sector. Governor Stitt is deeply grateful for his dedication to making Oklahoma a top ten state.
