PAUL, MN - Governor Tim Walz today announced the appointment of Kathryn Lorsbach and Kimberly Wimmer as District Court Judges in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. The seats will be chambered in Park Rapids in Hubbard County and Grand Rapids in Itasca County.
Kathryn Lorsbach will replace the Honorable Robert D. Tiffany for a seat chambered in Hubbard County.
“I am proud to appoint Kathryn Lorsbach to the Hubbard County bench,” said Governor Walz. “Not only is she a talented attorney, but she is not afraid to push the justice system to be the best that it can be. Her dedication and commitment to serving the people of northwestern Minnesota will make her an excellent addition to the bench.”
Kimberly Wimmer will replace the Honorable Korey Wahwassuck for a seat chambered in Itasca County.
“I am honored to appoint Kimberly Wimmer,” said Governor Walz. “Her diverse practice background and sincere commitment to serving her community will make her an excellent judge. The Itasca County bench is gaining a brilliant legal mind who will help them tackle the challenges ahead.”
Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District encompasses Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau Counties.
About Kathryn Lorsbach
Kathryn Lorsbach is the county attorney in the Clearwater County Attorney’s Office, where she handles a broad range of criminal and civil matters. She was previously an assistant public defender in the Ninth Judicial District and a law clerk for the Honorable Jonathan N. Jasper in Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District. Lorsbach’s community involvement includes serving as a member of the Clearwater County DUI Treatment Court, the Clearwater Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, and the Anishinaabe Sexual Assault Response Team. She received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota and her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.
About Kimberly Wimmer
Kimberly Wimmer is the executive vice president and general counsel of TruStar Federal Credit Union, where she assists with the overall leadership of the credit union and oversees all legal matters for its six branches in northern Minnesota. She previously worked as a solo practitioner at Wimmer Law Office, P.A., where she handled both civil and criminal matters and worked as an assistant public defender for the State of Minnesota. Wimmer's community involvement includes serving on the Borderland Treatment Court Team; acting as a board member, secretary, and treasurer for Friends Against Abuse; serving as a board member and treasurer of the Littlefork-Big Falls School Board; and volunteering with various academic and athletic programs in local schools. She received her B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
