From: Guilford County SchoolsAngie Henry Given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine
Award is state’s highest honor for state service
In front of her family and colleagues, longtime Guilford County Schools’ financial services leader Angie Henry was presented with the state’s highest honor last week. Henry received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which may only be given to retiring individuals who have 30 or more years of service to the state of North Carolina.
The award was given by Representative Ashton Clemmons, a former GCS principal, on behalf of Governor Roy Cooper. Clemmons said, “Since serving in Raleigh, I’ve realized how rare Angie is and how widely respected she is across the state.”
Clemmons thanked Henry for helping her manage a large federal grant during her first years as a principal at Oak Hill Elementary. “To have someone like Angie, who did not belittle you when she very well should have, but actually just wanted to love and help me use resources to impact kids directly improved the lives of Oak Hill students and made me a better principal.”
She described a recent government meeting about the need to simplify school funding. “Someone in the meeting said, ‘You know if you have a great CFO like Angie Henry, you can make the resources go farther for kids.’. . . What a statement, that Angie’s skill and talent in finance over the years made resources stretch farther for the children of Guilford County Schools.”
Henry has worked for Guilford County Schools since 1995 and was named chief financial officer in 2012. In 2015 she was recognized as one of the Triad Business Journals’ Financial Executives of the Year. Henry received her B.S. in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is a Certified Public Accountant.
