Peck Topping Off Ceremony - Guilford County Schools (GCS) will celebrate another major milestone of the $2 billion bonds.??On Monday, October 30, GCS leaders will be joined by students, school board members and county and city officials for a Topping Out ceremony at The Peck Expeditionary Learning School. A Topping Out ceremony is a construction tradition that marks the completion of a building’s frame. The group will sign the last steel beam before it is raised and placed onto the school.??
Peck is one of six bond projects currently under construction and will be the first of its kind in Guilford County. Expeditionary Learning is an approach that takes learning beyond the classroom and immerses students in real-world experiences. The ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m.
Dashing Dolphins Lace up Falkener Elementary School’s running club, the Dashing Dolphins, are recipients of the LACE UP Grant. The grant comes from the school’s collaboration with GO FAR and Fleet Feet. 75 student runners will receive new shoes at 3:00 p.m. in Falkener's multipurpose room.
Hallowhirlie - The Grimsley High School service-learning ambassador club is hosting a fall event. The club invited elementary-age students and their younger siblings to dress up, get candy, and play games. The event will be in Grimsley’s cafeteria from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 pm.

Día De Los Muertos – Page High School’s world language department will put on a celebration for Día De Los Muertos in the Page Auditorium and surrounding areas. The theme is “Ofrenda, a Day of the Dead Celebration.” Starting at 2:30, students and teachers at Page will be invited to visit a live “wax museum,” with Spanish Honors Society students dressed for Día De Los Muertos and interacting, a performance by Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, a flamenco dance performance, and a song performed by members of our World Language department.
Wednesday, November 1
HOOT Day – Sternberger Elementary will host its first HOOT Day. HOOT stands for Helping Ourselves and Others Thrive. Presenters from multiple career clusters will provide students with insight into their professions. The school will have three sessions throughout the day:
8:10-9:30 (4th & 5th grades)
10:00-11:20 (2nd & 3rd grades)
12:10-1:30 (K & 1st grades)
Thursday, November 2
Student Sleep Out – Students at the Early Middle College at GTCC Greensboro will participate in a sleep-out. Students will listen to guest speakers and organize and prepare care packages for people experiencing homelessness. The community service initiative is aimed to combat and raise awareness about homelessness. The sleep-out will be from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in the bus parking lot of the school.

Sugar and Spice – Students at Northeast High started a mentoring group. Twice a week, the Sugar and Spice group meets with 4th and 5th-grade girls at Madison Elementary to serve as role models and create a safe space where students can discuss topics like self-confidence, self-awareness and problem-solving.
Mental Health Breakroom – Counseling and Mental Health students at the Academy at Smith have created a space for their classmates to take a break and practice mindfulness. The students created a break room filled with snacks and inspirational quotes. Students and staff are allowed to stop by for 15-minute moments to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life.
Notes for Notes - Guilford County Schools (GCS) is the home of one of the first in-house recording studios in the country. The district partnered with the nonprofit Notes for Notes to create the organization’s first recording studio in a public school in the United States. The studio provides opportunities for students to record their own music and learn skills that can prepare them for futures in the entertainment industry. The space is free and serves as a model for the future of arts education in a public school system.
