ACC Mascots Visiting Students – They don’t call Greensboro tournament town for nothing. ACC Mascots will visit Gillespie Park Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Women’s Basketball Team Visiting Students – The Boston College women’s basketball team will visit Peck Elementary. Students will cheer on the team and ask them questions in the school media center. This event starts at 11:00 a.m.

Cultural Café – CTE students at Northwest High area holding a Black History Month event. There will be choral and orchestra performances and art displays. Showtimes are 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Cereal Domino Challenge – Southwest Elementary has been collecting cereal boxes for A Simple Gesture. Students were challenged to collect 700 (100 per grade level), and if they reached their goal, staff promised to line them up like dominoes and allow the children to watch. So far students have collected 773 boxes. Set up begins at 12:30 p.m.; the boxes fall at 1:15 p.m.

Read Across America day – Dr. Oakley will participate in an event with GCS Principal of the year Paul Travers at Washington Montessori at 1 p.m.

Become a Foster Parent - Families are invited to attend a virtual information session hosted by Guilford Parent Academy to learn about the foster parent program and the Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP) training from the NC Department of Human Services. Click Here to register.

Family STEAM Night – Parents of current and prospective students at Jones Elementary are invited to learn about STEAM pathways. The event is targeting children Pre-K – 2 and will feature engineering challenges, guest speakers, MakerSpace-Art projects and Interactive Science and Technology activities. The event is from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Read Across America- Dr. Oakley will participate in a Read Across America week event at Wiley Elementary from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Project Search Application Window Closes - Project SEARCH is looking for its next group of students with disabilities ready to enter the workforce. Project SEARCH?is a national program that serves high school seniors with disabilities. It is targeted at students whose goal is competitive employment. Students work and learn at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and High Point Medical Center, gaining marketable work skills during three 10-week unpaid internships designed to help them explore a variety of career paths. Read Across America Week: Begins on the birthday of author, Dr. Seuss and is a time to celebrate and encourage a love for reading. Throughout the week, different schools across the district will be hosting special activities. Here are a few:

Claxton Elementary- Will host “Storyteller Saturday” on February 25^th at Kernodle Middle. Families will visit stations with different forms of storytelling. Volunteers will share stories through graphic novels, dual language, puppets, photography and more. Families will get to make their own story props, take home free books and act out a story on stage. The event starts at 9:30 a.m.

Monticello Brown Summit Elementary School – Farmers, pastors, first responders and other community members will visit the school between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. from the 1^st to the 3^rd to read to students.

Jamestown Elementary – Holding a Dr. Seuss-themed spirit week.
