Southeast Museum, in collaboration with the Brewster Chamber of Commerce, the Putnam County Historian, and the Brewster Library, will premier its exhibit, The History of Business of Brewster, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 19, at 4:30 at the museum at 67 Main Street in Brewster. The Chamber will hold its monthly meeting at the museum following the ceremony.

Over a year in the making, this exhibit will include memories shared by lifelong residents of Brewster during interviews conducted by Deborah Oswald, executive director of the museum. Deborah shared the rich recollections of lifelong Brewster residents who contributed to this exciting exhibit. “Through planning for this exhibit, I discovered a passion for interviewing people who remember patronizing businesses such as Hope’s Drug Store, The Cameo Theater, and Benny’s. Their recollections were so specific that they painted a picture for me of what Main Street in Brewster looked like over sixty years ago.” Paula Hernandez, the Brewster Chamber of Commerce executive director, added the following. “The Brewster Chamber of Commerce is delighted to have been a part of the initial planning stages for the "History of Business in Brewster" exhibit alongside the Southeast Museum, County Historian, and Brewster Library. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the individuals who generously shared their stories and to the dedicated team who worked tirelessly to bring this exhibit to life. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and invaluable contributions of the Brewster business community.”

The museum will open to the public with this exhibit on March 19. Until December 15, its regular hours of operation will be Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
