On May 27, 2025, Congressman Horsford alongside impacted Nevadans, including the Chair of the Nevada Solar Association and the mother of four children reliant on Medicaid held a press conference to condemn House Republicans’ disastrous budget bill.
“While most Americans were sleeping and in the dead of night, House Republicans passed a budget that has the potential to seriously hurt Nevada’s future,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “The GOP passed permanent tax cuts for billionaires and paid for them through the largest cuts to healthcare in American history, tax increases for many Americans, and destroying job-creating clean energy programs. With the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and SNAP on the chopping block AND Trump’s Tariff Tax causing prices to soar, Nevadans will face higher health and food costs all so people like Elon Musk can get richer.”
“I am the mother to four children adopted through the foster care system – all who rely on Medicaid for critical health care needs,” said Donna Smith, mom of four who rely on Medicaid. “Having access to short-term care and residential treatment is often the only option that allows a family to survive. Medicaid literally saves lives in those instances. Yet Republicans chose to cut health care for my children just so they can line the pockets of the ultra-rich.”
“I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy incentives across Nevada,” said Steve Hamile, Chair of the Nevada Solar Association. “Since its passage in 2022, this legislation spurred more than $15.5 billion in clean energy investments which in turn have created more than 21,000 good-paying jobs here at home. Now, all of this progress will be reversed all because Republicans are prioritizing tax cuts for billionaires.”
House Republicans’ “screw America” bill ends clean energy incentives that have created good-paying jobs and lowered costs, rips health care away from roughly 100,000 Nevadans, and slashes food assistance programs that more than 500,000 Nevadans rely on – all to pave the way for tax cuts for billionaires.
This comes as Trump’s price-raising agenda is pummeling Nevada’s economy and raising costs for working families and businesses.
