Motorists advised to avoid unnecessary travel 

TRENTON - Route 22 eastbound is closed and detoured at Washington Avenue due to emergency roadway repairs caused by flooding in Greenbrook, Somerset County.

Governor Murphy has declared a State of Emergency for all 21 counties due to flooding caused by torrential rains and has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

Route 22 eastbound was closed near Washington Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 14 due to flooding. When the water receded, a section of the roadway was damaged near Jefferson Avenue. 

Crews are on scene and working to make repairs to the damaged roadway. It is unclear how long repairs may take at this time, but it is expected to remain closed through at least the Tuesday morning rush hour. Motorists are advised to follow the detour or plan an alternate route. The following detour is in place:

Route 22 eastbound Detour:

  • Motorists on Route 22 eastbound will be directed to turn right onto Washington Avenue
  • Turn left onto Route 28/North Avenue
  • Turn left onto Rock Avenue
  • Turn right onto Route 22 eastbound
