Arts and Entertainment

May 15, 2025

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) brings to the region an eclectic mix of professional music with its Jazz/Opera under the Stars concert series in Medina’s Uptown Park again this summer.

Now entering its 15th year, Jazz/Opera under the Stars is one of the preeminent summer concert series in Ohio. The season kicks off on Saturday, June 7, with Erin Nicole Neal and Jazz in the Blue. Neal delights audiences with her strong, soulful voice that flows easily from heartfelt bluesy delivery to agile jazz-style phrasing.??Her band performs a mix of music that includes blues, rock, pop, soul, and jazz in the style of artists such as Dinah Washington, Low Rawls, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Frank Sinatra, and many more!

Opera under the Stars graces the gazebo on Saturday, June 21 featuring Medina resident Marian Vogel (soprano), Akron-based Laura Best (mezzo soprano) and Cuyahoga Falls-based baritone Brian Johnson. The trio will delight audiences with familiar opera tunes, as well as lesser-known works, as well as beloved melodies from operettas and musicals.

Audiences are in for a treat on Saturday, July 5 with Eric Everett Jazz: Elation! The Ensemble brings together the sultry sounds of 70s & 80s R&B, soul, as well as classic and smooth jazz standards. Since 2012, Eric Everett Jazz Productions is a recognized brand for delivering high quality musical entertainment and has performed at numerous popular venues in Cleveland and Akron.

The summer festival continues on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with the Organic Trio. Tapping into the current Hammond organ revival, Chris Hovan revisits the classic organ combo genre with a renewed sense of purpose that puts swing and soulful energy at a premium. Covering both modern repertoire and iconic standards from the jazz lexicon, the trio features Michigan natives Cliff Metcalf on organ and Chandler Carpenter on guitar. Come early, as at 6:30 pm, summer bucket drumming students, under the direction of Medina-percussionist Ryun Louie, will perform. Students are part of the ORMACO-Medina County Police Activities League free music lesson collaboration.

The series closes out with Richfield and New York based jazz singer Barbara Rosene on August 23, 2025.  She will be performing with a trio comprised of Rock Wehrmann, piano; Aidan Plank, bass; and Brad Wagner, drums.

All concerts take place at 7 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnics. Light concessions will be available. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 317 E. Liberty Street, Medina, OH 44256. For more information visit www.ormaco.org or call 419-853-6016.
