RALEIGH - Jefferson Griffin, Republican candidate for North Carolina Supreme Court, requested a second hand-eye recount last week following the statewide recount. In addition, the legal briefs from Griffin, Ashlee Adams, and Stacie McGinn have been filed with N.C. State Board of Elections (NCSBE).
These election protests challenge the validity of more than 60,000 ballots across the state due to specific irregularities and discrepancies in the handling and counting of ballots.
“Voters in North Carolina deserve confidence in our election system. Upholding the rule of law and keeping the State Board accountable are critical in this process to make sure every legal vote is counted,” said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer.
The North Carolina Republican Party is committed the resources necessary to seeing these protests through to their conclusion.
Griffin and the NCGOP are seeking the hand-eye recount to continue examining ballots across the state given the NCSBE's confusing and contradictory guidance sent to counties.
"It's important to remember that these actions are being taken because of the administration of elections: while Democrats and their allies in the media seem to want specific outcomes, our effort is about consistency, fairness, and transparency,"Mercer added.
