A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of July 16-22:
July 17, 18 (four separate classes) - Dance: 50 Plus Tap - Beginning, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced (Ages 50 & Older)
Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, days, times vary (see below), 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents
Learn basic tap fundamentals such as the Waltz, Clog, and Rhythm Time Steps in Beginner Tap. Stomp, shuffle, and stamp your way to the next level with Intermediate. Test out of Intermediate for Advanced. Hard-soled or tap dance shoes required. No previous tap dance necessary for Beginner.
Meeting on Mondays beginning July 17 are: a Beginner class from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., activity number 26663 and an Intermediate class is offered from 2 to 3 p.m., activity number 26664. Meeting on Tuesdays beginning July 18 are: an Advanced Beginner class from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., activity number 26665 and an Advanced class from 2 to 3 p.m., activity number 26666.
July 17-20 – Language: Introduction to Spanish Camp (Ages 7-11)
Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to Noon, 4 sessions, $145 per person, $160 nonresidents
NEW! Emerson Language Academy will teach all the basics of Spanish in a fun and hands-on way in order to build a solid foundation for future language learning.
Students will learn the Spanish alphabet, colors, numbers, greetings, how to express feelings, and introductions. We will sing, dance, and play games all while learning Spanish! Activity number 25791.
July 17-20 - Soccer: JOCO Summer Soccer Camp (Ages 4-5)
New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Monday through Thursday, 1 to 2 p.m., 4 sessions, $75 per person
Kansas City Surf Soccer Club (formerly Puma FC) coaches will be running this four-day camp over summer break. Basic soccer skills will be taught in a fun, positive environment. Kids should bring their own soccer ball, wear shin guards and long socks, as well as soccer cleats or tennis shoes, and bring a water bottle. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt. July 17-20 - Soccer: JOCO Summer Soccer Camp (Ages 6-10)
New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Monday through Thursday, 1 to 2:30 p.m., 4 sessions, $95 per person

July 17-21 - Soccer: Tiny Tykes (Ages 3-5)
New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Monday through Friday, 9 to 9:45 a.m., 5 sessions, $100 per person
Challenger Sports coaches will be running the Tiny Tykes camp. A fun introduction to soccer influenced by the popular year-round Tiny Tykes curriculum. Includes games, activities, and adventures to introduce and develop coordination, balance, running, stopping, turning, kicking, dribbling, throwing, and catching. Activity number 30979. July 17-21 - Soccer: Half Day Skills Soccer Camp (Ages 6-14)
New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 5 sessions, $170 per person
Challenger Sports coaches will be running the camp. Monday - Friday inclusive three hours per day, delivered by our professional and international staff. Complete technical player development featuring practices from around the world as part of our international camp curriculum. July 18 - Okun Fieldhouse Blood Drive (Ages 17 & Older and must weigh at least 110 lbs.)
Okun Fieldhouse, 20200 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., FREE

July 18 - Movies in the Park: “Toy Story 4” (Rated G)
Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park with a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee, Gates open at 8 p.m., movie starts between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m., depending on sunset, $1 per person
Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody's slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. July 19 - Early Learning: Silly Sensory Walk (Ages 1-4 with an Adult)
Meadowbrook Park - Shelter #1, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., $4 per person, $5 nonresidents
Explore the park with a group and find fun and tactile ways to interact along the way! Limit of two children per adult. Activity number 26865.
July 20 - Museum: Behind-the-Scenes Johnson County Museum Tour (Ages 16 & Older)
Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, All Ages, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., $11 adults, $10 seniors (60+), $9 children, museum members receive a 20% discount
Interact with museum staff as you learn why we collect, how we collect, and the importance to our local community. Our collection features over 19,300 3D objects and over one million images. July 21 - Friday Amphitheater Program - “Snakes Alive” (All Ages)
Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, 7 to 7:45 p.m., $4 per person
Final Summer Amphitheater Program of 2023 - Bring the family to the outdoor amphitheater at Ernie Miller Park for this entertaining and educational experience that will explore questions like why is it that snakes seem so terrifying? Could all the stories you have heard about snakes be true? See Kansas snakes as we explore the facts and fallacies of these legless wonders of the natural world. In case of inclement weather, including extreme heat, this program will be held indoors. Advance registration is recommended and closes the day of the program at 4 p.m.; onsite registration is cash only, if space is available. July 22 - Fishing: Overnight Saturdays after 11 p.m. (All Ages)
Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, 11 p.m. - 5 a.m., permit fees vary
The park will be open for fishing only and park police officers will be on duty throughout the night. Before fishing, area anglers will need to have a valid Kansas fishing license, a Johnson County Park and Recreation District fishing permit, trout permit if fishing for trout, and all appropriate boat tags, if applicable.
