From: State Historical Society of North DakotaFort Abercrombie State Historic Site near Fargo is hosting activities in June to promote learning and fun for adults and children.
At the Fort Abercrombie Sunday History Program on June 11 from 2 to 3 p.m., learn how to preserve your photos, textiles, documents, and artifacts. “Preserving Your History” will be presented by staff member Lis Fricker.
On Sunday, June 18, make your own kite from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Supplies are provided. Visitors can also bring their own kites to fly on the grounds throughout the day. The Hands-on History Father’s Day Event features an interactive fur trade presentation for all ages from 2 to 3 p.m. by staff member Lexa Klein. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Fort Abercrombie Sunday History Program on June 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. is “Grant’s Brown Water Riverine Warfare” presented by staff member Alan Fricker. Soldiers stationed and trained at Fort Abercrombie were sent to the South during the Civil War, where they participated in river warfare in the southern and southeastern regions of the United States.
Fort Abercrombie is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with guided tours available.
