On Tuesday, the Kansas Democratic Party, along with the Lyon County Democrats and the 2nd Congressional Democrats hosted a town hall event in Emporia at the Lyon County Historic Center, with more than 115 people in attendance.

While Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Roger Marshall, and Congressman Derek Schmidt were invited to join during their Congressional recess, and hear from constituents, none of them attended.

People from within and outside of Lyon County shared their concerns about access to healthcare, rising costs for childcare coupled without rising wages, and the authoritarianism and anarchy of the Trump administration.

“While Republicans are not showing up to face their constituents, Democrats are. Whether someone has a concern about their job security due to extreme federal funding cuts or access to health care, Kansans deserve to be heard by elected officials who are supporting these harmful policies,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.

The town hall’s panelists, who did show up and listen to attendees concerns, were Kansas House Democratic Leader Brandon Woodard, Kansas Senate Democratic Leader Dinah Sykes, Matt Kleinmann (former Congressional District 2 candidate), CD 2 Democrats Chair Emily Walters, Wichita Hutchinson Labor Federation Director Jake Lowen, and Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass.

This was the third town hall hosted by the Kansas Democratic Party.
