Government and Politics

March 3, 2025

The Kansas Democratic Party highlighted their shared values and commitment to rural communities, working families, unions and democracy.

On February 28 and March 1, hundreds of Democrats from across Kansas gathered in Topeka for their annual convention, Washington Days. The state party delegates re-elected Chairwoman Jeanna Repass and Vice Chair Shaun Junkins each by unanimous acclamation. In addition, former State Senator Usha Reddi and Nik Cabrini were elected to serve as Treasurer and Secretary respectively.

The convention also included the re-organization of the Native American Caucus, and a new Senior Wisdom Caucus focused on Kansans aged 55 and older. Third Congressional District Representative Sharice Davids, and Native American Attorney and Civil Rights activist, Kalyn Free from Oklahoma, were the featured speakers at the luncheon.

The weekend culminated with a dinner banquet headlined by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. The evening’s keynote address was delivered by Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn one of the officers on the front lines during the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Officer Dunn shared a message of courage in the face of adversity and the importance of standing up for America’s core values.

“Democrats are ready to fight for the shared values of Kansans during this time of uncertainty in our state and country. Unelected billionaires and their friends are cutting jobs and funding that has a direct impact on veterans, farmers, and other working families,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chair Jeanna Repass. “These are not Kansas values and we will be unwavering as we stand up for every Kansan.”
