Ear to the Ground

Happening THIS Weekend

Rhubarb Fest is THIS SATURDAY - Saturday, June 3 - and begins at 8 a.m. for the runners in town, but for the rest of us,10 a.m. will see the festival kick off with the singing of the Rhubarb National Anthem - led by Phil Dybing, and the bee-bop-a-ree-bop Rhubarb Pie Sing-along. The games start at 10:15 with the throwing of the first stalk by KTTC’s Jess Abrahamson and Ted Schmidt. There's also a fashion show and tastings, beginning at 10:30, and live music all day, including Lonely Knees and Two Harbors Ukulele Group. Don’t forget to stop by the vendors and the Farmers Market to purchase unique items and tasty treats. Visit the goats as they chill out in the park and other information booths throughout the festival. 

Trail Town Trivia

Bingo! I got it! It’s bingo tonight (Thursday, June 1) at Karst Brewing and then Trivia next week on June 7. Starting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday Trivia at the High Court Pub will feature Records, be they worldly, or nefarious; Rock and… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what else; It’s that time of year – OK Dads, and Grads it’s your turn, I guess. And finally, we got the ol’ English Invasion, innit govnah? Starting at 7 p.m. every Tuesday.

Trivia this month at The Bite In Harmony, will be highly situational, and hopefully somewhat comedic. The sitcoms. The Fun starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 12.  

The Legion Line-up

Margarita Monday, $6 Margaritas with chips and salsa; Taco Tuesday, $6 for two tacos with all the fixings; Wednesday Ladies Night, Ladies get $1 off drinks; Thursday Dudes Night, Dudes get $1 off drinks; Friday Meat Raffle, six drawings, $1 a ticket; Saturday, Bloody Mary Bar- $5.50 for Bloody Mary’s with fixings; and Sunday Fun Day with a variety of games with prizes for winners!

Karaoke Wednesdays

Second Wednesday at the American Legion from 6 to 9 p.m.

Fourth Wednesday at the High Court Pub, starting at 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Swing by Granny’s every Saturday from 12-3 p.m. for a free sampling!

Burro Business-Lanesboro School News

Congratulations to our Lanesboro Seniors! Graduation is Sunday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lanesboro High School Gym. We wish the graduates all the best in their future endeavors.

Lanesboro Library Family Events are back! Swing by the Library just about every Tuesday this summer at 10 a.m. The activities kick off on Tuesday, June 6, with story time with author Kiersten Hall, and then don't miss Jolly Pops on June 13. Balloons on June 20. Also, join us for weekly story time every Friday starting at 9:30 a.m.  

Unique Adventures

Summer Sundays are back at Sylvan Brewing! Every Sunday will include delicious farm-to-table food from the Driftless Trading Post. Live music will be featured all summer long as well. Most weekends, the music will start at 4 p.m. 

Art in the Park is just around the corner, so be sure to put aside some time on Saturday, June 17, to check out over 90(!) vendors from both near and far. But you don’t have to take my word for it, here’s what Lanesboro Arts has to say: “Lanesboro Arts is proud to present the 42nd annual Art in the Park fine art festival on Saturday, June 17, in Lanesboro’s Sylvan Park with 90-plus fine art booths, craft booths, locally-prepared food, and live music. This event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing visitors an ample amount of time to view and purchase fine art, connect with others, and enjoy the festivities. Renowned for quality, variety and value, Art in the Park is a family-friendly art fair that attracts thousands of regional patrons to Sylvan Park each year.”

Lanesboro Arts Gallery is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a juried group show of some of the hundreds of the region's most talented creators who have shown their work at the galleries at Lanesboro Arts (and Cornucopia Gallery before that). The show runs from June 17 through August 13 with a special anniversary reception on the evening of Saturday, July 15.  

Be sure to sign up for Morel Madness at Root River 102. Learn how to find and identify a number of amazing mushrooms while you enjoy four incredible morel mushroom small plates and expertly crafted, wild themed cocktails.  

Live Music

Nick Goytick brings his blues, soul, folk and rock-n-roll stylings to the High Court Pub on Friday night, June 2, at 7 p.m.

Musical Troubadour Tim Fast will show you what’s what on Saturday, June 3, at the High Court Pub.

Clay Fulton will be Rocking his Roots with some Roots Rock at the High Court Pub, on Friday, June 9 from 7-10 p.m.

Rhythm on The Root starts June 10 at Gateway Park! First up is General B and the Wiz, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Sinkhole Saturday is in full swing at Karst Brewing in Fountain. On Saturday, June 10, swing by for Drew Seisler, beginning at 7 p.m., on the 1s and 2s, and food from True Smoke BBQ.

Summer Sunday music at Sylvan Brewing has Luke Hendrickson on the June 11 and Matt & Brenda Stier on June 18. The tunes start at 4 p.m., but the brewery opens at noon. Grab something comfy, crafty or maybe a little bit crazy and enjoy the porch this weekend!

True North will grace the stage on Saturday, June 17, at the High Court Pub. Music starts at 7 p.m.

The Commonweal is in Rep! You can now see two different shows over the weekend, so be sure to book your visit and tickets today!

- Bernhardt/Hamlet: Legendary diva is aging out of all the juicy roles. Ditching the dresses, she risks everything to play Hamlet! High comedy and human drama collide in this dynamic backstage account of a real-life superstar.

- Deathtrap: Desperate for a hit, a washed-up playwright will do anything to resuscitate his dying career, even [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] (NO SPOILERS!). This devilishly clever thriller will have you on the edge of your till the final bow.

Eagle Bluff Summer High Ropes Challenge! Saturday, June 3, and June 24th 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Buy tickets in advance on eaglebluff.org/events Maneuver 30 feet in the air through a series of towers connected by various cables, ropes and log events! Do this all while enjoying the best view of southeastern Minnesota! This confidence-building experience is great for family outings, reunions, scouts, youth groups and individuals.

Farmers Market Saturdays: Remember - the Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., from now through October. This weekend’s Farmers Market promises to be extra special as it’s held in conjunction with Rhubarb Fest. I’m sure there will be lots of tasty treats for sale as well as bundles of the delicious and versatile vegetable.

Planning for your future? Why not Whalan?

The Aroma Pie Shoppe and The Whalan Depot are open seven days a week! Be sure to pop over to Whalan for a slice of World Famous Pie, and a gift or two and enjoy the charms of the smallest town on the trail.  

And in July, Whalan is the place to be! The Fastpitch Softball Tournament will be held over the Fourth of July Weekend. It is always a fast-paced and exciting event. And you don’t want to miss the Whalan Music in the Bluffs concert on Saturday, July 8, featuring the Rutabaga Brothers from 4 to 7 p.m. at the gazebo right on the Root River Trail.
