Buffalo Bill Days is next week! Fun starts on Thursday night

Lanesboro will host Buffalo Bill Days next week, Aug. 3 through Aug. 6. There are lots of activities for young and old alike. A good time is sure to be had. The Full Schedule of events can be found on the city's website (https://lanesboro-mn.gov/buffalo-bill-days/) but here are some highlights:

- Thursday, Aug. 3

Family movie night: "Encanto" in Sylvan Park starts at 8:30 p.m.; just make sure no one talks about Bruno, OK?!?

- Friday, Aug. 4

4 p.m.: The Brat and Beverage Stand opens, with music from Barb and Tom Schramm, starting at 5 p.m.

5 to 9 p.m.: Ambulance Takeout Steak Dinner will be near the Brat and Beverage tent. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Lanesboro Street Dance, get foot loose and fancy free on Coffee Street!

- Saturday, Aug. 5

8:30 a.m.: the Buffalo Roam, a 5k/1-mile family fun run (or walk) leaves from the visitor center.

10 a.m.: Live music starts at the Pavilion.

11 a.m.: Kids activities open with bounce houses, waterslide, pony rides and more (kids have all the fun).

12 p.m.: The real fun begins, we got a dunk tank!! Over the course of Saturday or Sunday, you have a chance to dunk (and support) the fire department, teachers, coaches, high school students and city officials, so get your arms warmed up!

8 p.m.: Free dance with Next 2 Nothing @ the Brat and Beverage Tent

Dusk: Fireworks Baby!

- Sunday, Aug. 6

10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Balloons by Kevin in Sylvan Park

1:30 p.m.: Grande Parade

Surprise Sculpture is back at Lanesboro Arts! Since 2013, Surprise Sculpture has provided free arts education opportunities for local students. For six weeks each summer, Lanesboro Arts staff and volunteers lead participants in constructing large-scale, site-specific sculptures for public spaces using a mixture of upcycled, recycled, and fine art materials. Surprise Sculpture is held every other Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the second floor studio space at the St. Mane Theatre. This year, help us celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Lanesboro Arts Gallery by completing a series of 30th Anniversary themed art projects! (August 8)

Open Studio hour at Lanesboro Arts is for ages 12-17! Attendees are welcome to use its space and materials (or bring your own). With the help and supervision of Lanesboro Arts staff, young artists can follow their creative curiosity wherever it may lead. This is a free open studio for artists and friends to create whatever and however they want! Open Studio is held every other Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m., right after Surprise Sculpture! No registration or participation fee is required for either Surprise Sculpture or Open Studio. (August 8)

Residency Reflections & Workshop Progress Capstone with Sophia Munic join Lanesboro Arts and Lanesboro Artist in Residence Sophia Munic at their Residency Reflections & Workshop Progress Capstone happy hour event on Friday (Tomorrow), July 28, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Sylvan Brewing. Sophia will share their work-in-progress, a large-scale quilt that they will have worked on during the Lanesboro Artist Residency. Sophia and community members will also reflect on the improvisational quilting workshops, as well as connect with each other.

Women in Jeopardy by Wendy MacLeod is now showing at the Commonweal Theatre. This show is a hoot! It’s Murder She Wrote meets Sex and the City. Best friends Mary, Jo and Liz are single, divorced and loving it. But danger looms when Liz starts dating an unhinged dentist, Nancy Drew inspired mysteries and bawdy hilarity ensues. And Deathtrap is in rep on alternate performance nights. Desperate for a hit, a washed-up playwright will do anything to resuscitate his dying career. This devilishly clever thriller will have you on the edge of your till the final bow. Monday performances are up and running, so there’s even more options to catch a show.

Eagle Bluff Summer High Ropes Challenge opportunities take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. On Friday July 28, Saturday July 29, and Saturday, Aug. 5. Buy tickets in advance on eaglebluff.org/events. Maneuver 30 feet in the air through a series of towers connected by various cables, ropes and log events! Do this all while enjoying the best view of southeastern Minnesota!

The Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in Sylvan Park, from now through October. Find produce, baked goods, plants, canned goods and so much more!

Summer Sundays are hitting their peak at Sylvan Brewing! Every Sunday will include delicious farm-to-table food from the Driftless Trading Post. Live music will be featured all summer long as well. Don Harvey will bring his award winning original songs and covers of some of your favorite artists to hear on July 30. Greg Gall & My Sisters from Another Mother will be playing a range of acoustic folk and rom from the '70s and beyond on Aug. 6. And Tim Emmons’ energetic covers and soul-stirring originals will have you tapping your feet on Aug. 13! On these hot summer days, grab a nice and tasty hazy Daisy, and a sandwich from the Driftless Trading Post and enjoy the tunes! Jokes on Tap returns on Friday, July 28, (Tomorrow – Come early for the artist happy hour, stay late for the goofs and gags!) Join us in the taproom with comics Ryan Stock and Andy Holt hosting open mic night on the last Friday of each month! Ryan and Andy bring in comics from the region to showcase their talents and try out new material.

The Lanesboro Barn Dance returns to town at the Sons of Norway Hall on Saturday, Aug. 19! It will be a raucous square dance that’s still fun for the whole family. Live music and live calling make for a fun, interactive night of dance and fun from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $8. Caller is Robin Nelson with music by Teresa & Eric Lind and Bob Bovee.

Strikepoint will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. There is no admission charge, but a donation of $18 per person is suggested. Refreshments will be served following the concert. Strikepoint is a church-based community/professional handbell ensemble from Duluth. Strikepoint has been at the forefront of handbell technique innovation (have you seen us dip bells in water to bend the sound?). Noted for capturing the enthusiasm of audiences with a dynamic style and accessible music, Strikepoint’s concert selections can range from Bach to Lady Gaga. They are self-sustaining, raising money primarily through concert donations and recordings sales. They dream big, always looking for ways to push the handbell envelope.Calling all percussionists! Strikepoint would like 6-8 local percussionists to accompany them on their final piece, "Africa" by Toto. There will be one rehearsal at 5:30 pm on Aug. 1 at Bethlehem, followed by supper with the ensemble. Strikepoint will bring the instruments and music. Contact [email protected] or 507-467-3344.

It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights! The Lanesboro Community Theater is about to close the curtain on their successful production of The Sound of Music on July 28, 29 at 7 p.m. and July 30 at 2 p.m. If you know of anyone with tickets, you can try to buy them at a premium, but word is - all shows are sold out. Those lucky enough to have tickets are sure to enjoy laughter, sadness, drama and the wonderful sounds of the classic musical. "Do, a deer," indeed.

Relay for Life of Fillmore County is Friday, July 28, from 3 to 11 p.m. Support the American Cancer Society at this important fundraiser. Located at the Fountain Community Center and Fountain Main Street.

Live music at abounds at High Court Pub with lots of opportunities to see live music. Schmidty-Paul Schmidt- Native Son and River Crossing member is doing a solo show on Friday, July 28. Guaranteed to be fun and energetic, Darrel Pipo has been playing music for 35 years and will treat you to garage rock and outlaw country on Saturday, July 29Chris Bertrand’s folky mix of originals and covers will blend genres on the Friday of Buffalo Bill Days, Aug. 4, Root River Jam will play the Saturday of Buffalo Bill Days, bringing Americana roots and blues; and then, rounding out Buffalo Bill Days on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 6, Clay Fulton will rock our roots from 3:30-6:30 p.m. All other shows are from 7 to 10 p.m.

Tuesday Trivia at the High Court Pub, kicks off Augy-Doggy on Aug. 1 with a nod to Lanesboro's Greatest Celebration- Gone County...Buffalo Bill Days. The next week, Aug. 8, we look at the cinematic event of the summer, the close examination of gender politics within the Manhattan Project Universe, and the Chronicles of Mattel Inc's effort to end WWII: Barbinheimer. On Aug. 15, let's hope Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber hasn't hit his head, giving himself the Janitor...Mike knows nothing about Cats! Regardless of category, the questions will be broad enough to be accessible while also being specific enough to feel triumphant when you get it right. Round 2 is an audio round, and the prizes are awesome. Grand prize is an always practical $25 dollars in drink chips, but the consolation prizes are the best!

Trivia at the Bite in Harmony this month is a foolish game, a...silly endeavor, a harmless lark, truly a trivial pursuit. That's right, the classic board game comes to life...just hope it's the edition that covers your life ;). Just kidding, Wyatt still writes all the questions, he just does it in the style of the game. Join us on Monday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Grab a burger of the week or a pizza of the month and enjoy some trifling avocation!

Sinkhole Saturday is grooving along at Karst Brewing in Fountain. Also, Linos Taqueria Mexican Food Truck, will be at Karst from 1-7 p.m. on July 30, and don’t sleep on Twisted Barrel Wood Fire Pizza, being served on Friday, July 28, and Aug. 2. El Samurai Japanese Teriyaki will be at Karst on Sunday, Aug. 6, from 1-7. Of course, don’t forget the rotating bi-weekly Bing-via…tri-go? Bingo every first and third Thursday of the month and Trivia the second and fourth. Trivia is tonight, Thursday, July 27. Round 1: questions about famous CEO’s, Round 2: Name the Movie from its bad review and then more general trivia.

Rhythm On the Root returns to Gateway Park, hosted by Lanesboro Arts, on Aug. 12, with Faith Boblett. Boblett is a dynamic singer-songwriter based in Minneapolis. Having roots in various genres of music, her lyrics and instrumentals are far-reaching to listeners. Boblett was named one of the Best New Bands in 2018 by First Avenue. She has released three LPs and one EP since 2013. Most popularly, two of the songs on her third LP — ”Ugly Things” and “Didn’t Want You” — received regular airplay on Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current.

Special Event: Hunter Bergo Archery Shoot

2023 Hunter Bergo Heart of Gold Memorial 3D Archery Shoot: Please help honor this beautiful boy in a way that represents Hunter's heart by enjoying the beauty of nature, shooting bow, spending quality time together, and spreading kindness. While Hunter's family and friends were blessed enough to have Hunter for 10 years, 3 months and 26 days, Hunter showed them what truly matters in this life. "We are here to connect and be there for one another, especially in times of need. Our event is one small way we can all live by the example of our sweet boy. Please come join us for a beautiful and healing day," organizers say.

All proceeds from the day will be donated to Emily Charlebois and Sam Keasling and their families, as well as to the Hunter Bergo Heart of Gold Foundation Humble and Kind Lanesboro Senior Scholarship.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. Cost is $15 per Shooter/Person; $10 - Youth ages 9-15; and FREE - Kids age 8 and under.

LUNCH will be included with admission and served from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. or until the food runs out!

The Silent Auction will start early on Aug. 11 online for a limited number of items and end at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12! You can join in on part of the silent auction from anywhere through our facebook event!

DOOR PRIZES will include a brand new Setup Youth Hoyt Bow! (must be present to win door prizes, announced at 4:15 p.m.)
