As part of the Helene Lecar Civic Engagement Program, students and League interns at Albany High School started a Youth Council, extending the work of the Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville League of Women Voters to young community members. The Council has been active over the past year, working to engage a rising generation in civic participation and advocacy. Read more!
Register for the 19th Annual Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour and Green Home Features Showcase happening on May 6th and May 7th from 10 AM to 5 PM! Registrants will learn how design a native plant garden for color and interest throughout the year, garden for wildlife, lower their water bills, and protect their family’s health and the environment by gardening without pesticides. There will also be a chance to see and lean about home electrification. Register Today!
On May 6th, Albany is hosting an Annual Compost Giveaway from 8 to 11 AM on Carmel Avenue. Residents can take home up to four bags of organic compost, on a first come first serve basis, while supplies last. This compost is from residential food scraps and yard waste. There will be garage sales throughout the city on May 13th, from 9 AM to 12PM. Maps will be available regarding the locations of these sales. See more!
