Interns were introduced to LWVBAE’s history and structure, and given an overview of each role. This then led to an open sharing moment about how it feels to conduct community outreach, when the former Communications Intern, Isabelle Oppelt, said, “It can feel really great to help someone get an answer to a question they didn’t even know they had.” See more!

Eliminating Mail-in Ballots and Voting Machines

President Trump’s attacks on voting machines are similarly misleading and dangerous. Voting systems in the US already meet strict standards for security, accuracy, transparency, and accessibility, with paper ballots or audit trails to verify results. Scrapping machines in favor of hand counting would undermine election integrity and efficiency, not strengthen it. See more!

LWV "Use It or Lose It" Purges and College Students' Right to Vote

Yet “Use It or Lose It” voting laws allow states to presume that a person has moved or is no longer eligible to vote if they haven’t cast a ballot in recent elections. The process typically begins with a mailed confirmation notice. If the voter doesn’t respond and fails to vote within a set timeframe - typically two or more consecutive federal general elections (about four years) - their voter registration can be canceled without their consent or knowledge. See more!
