Joe Lombardo had the opportunity to meet with Donald Trump and stand up for the health care of hundreds of thousands of Nevadans by speaking out against House Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid, but stayed home instead. This comes just days after Lombardo told the Nevada Independent that he doesn’t have a contingency plan or solution to the disruption potential cuts could cause working families.
This comes as recent reporting from the Reno Gazette-Journal found that Nevada would be the third most impacted state by Republicans’ plan to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations by cutting Medicaid funding. These cuts could cost the state nearly $1.9 billion over the next two years and kick more than 300,000 Nevadans off their health insurance, doubling the state’s uninsured rate. GOP Assembly Minority Leader said he was “not concerned about how the federal budget cuts could impact Nevadans”, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“Nevadans wondering why Joe Lombardo refuses to stand up against Medicaid cuts for working families should not be surprised. This is the same governor who vetoed legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs and then received nearly $100,000 in campaign cash from big drug companies. As Donald Trump and House Republicans prepare to rip away health care from more than 300,000 people – Lombardo has no contingency plan and refuses to do what’s right for Nevada.”
