12 PM - Panel Discussion - Building a Community of Film Lovers
Moderated by YAB Member and Fesitval Coordinator Charlotte Brennan
We explore the ways in which film – whether making films or screening them – can be a coming together within the wider community, as well as a practice of community-building. What does it mean to gather in the dark to watch films on a cinema screen? How do we relate to one another through film, and as cinephiles? What does it take to convert that affinity into a culture that engages directly with the medium, and build an apparatus of independent filmmaking? Our panelists will share their experiences establishing and becoming part of the film communities that they wanted to participate in.
1 pm - Panel Discussion - Getting Started: The First Steps Toward Making Your Film
Moderated by YAB Member Vincent Biello
Every film starts as a dream. Turning that dream into a finished product, however, is a long and daunting process. Our panelists engage with the question of what to do first when making your dream film into a reality. Drawing on their recent experience as young filmmakers who didn’t know how to start, they shed light on common pitfalls, as well as helpful hints for aspiring filmmakers who are looking to take the first step.
