In just a few short months, we'll be laying a brand new time capsule at the cornerstone of our new Main Library, which is currently under construction, and we'd love to know what you think it should hold. What items do you think best represent Maplewood right now? The time capsule will be slated to open 50 years from now, in 2083.

Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and school.
ADULTS: PANEL DISCUSSION
Banned Books: What They Are and Why It Matters
Tuesday, October 3, 6:30 pm at South Orange Library
Join us for a special Banned Books Week discussion co-sponsored by Maplewood and South Orange libraries. Panelists will include Alison Macrina, Executive Director of the Library Freedom Project, and Marietta Zacker, co-owner of and literary agent at Gallt and Zacker Literary Agency.
TEENS: LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN
All week at Maplewood & South Orange Libraries, teens can drop in to write a letter in support of the the New Jersey Right to Read Act.
KIDS: BANNED BOOKS READ-ALOUD
Thursday, October 5 at 4 pm at Hilton Branch Library
A read-aloud storytime for elementary school age kids & families.
OPEN MIC! Kids and families are invited to read aloud from your favorite banned children's books. Presented in partnership with South Orange Public Library and SOMA Action.

An interactive and inclusive storytime with live music by Wilma and friends. Lots of fun for all ages, especially designed for younger children. Come sing & dance with us!

HOMESCHOOL MEETUP
Tuesday October 17 from 10am - 12 noon
Local homeschooling families are invited to come to the Hilton Branch of the Maplewood Library for a monthly Homeschooing Meet Up event. Parents can learn more about local resources, while kids and teens can learn and play together.
READ TO A DOG
Monday, October 23rd @ 6:30-7:30pm
For school age children & tweens
A relaxed group environment for school-age kids and tweens to read out loud to a certified therapy dog. Kids take turns reading to a furry friend … in a group setting.
Build confidence and reading skills! Bring something to read aloud, or arrive early enough to have time to pick out a book to read.
LEGO CLUB

For ages 5 years & up with a participating adult
Join us for an hour of imagination and LEGO building. LEGO creations will be displayed in the library.
LIL TUMBLEZ
Thursday, October 26 @10:30am -11:30am
For kids ages 0-5 with a participating adult.
Join us for soft play. This activity is great for developing and improving motor skills, confidence and coordination. Kids will have a blast climbing, crawling, bouncing and exploring. This fun class is presented by Lil Tumblez Party.
We'll have stories on the side while you wait your turn. If the weather is nice, we'll be outside.
