The Marine Mammal Stranding Center relies heavily on fundraising events to continue our mission and carry out our life-saving work for the marine mammals and sea turtles of New Jersey.

This year, more than ever, our organization's needs have grown with the increase in strandings. Since January 2023, the MMSC has responded to 162 strandings. From Sandy Hook to Cape May, from the ocean front to bayside, our organization covers all 1,800 miles of New Jersey tidal waterways. Our team could not continue our hard work without our dedicated supporters, donors, volunteers, and event sponsors and participants.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our "pod" and supporting our efforts to save so many of these precious, protected species.

The giving season has only begun!

Giving Tuesday is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of November. It is a day dedicated to encouraging people to do good!

The seals have returned to the New Jersey shore!

On October 23rd, we had our first confirmed seal sighting of the season reported to the MMSC hotline, a Harbor seal in Atlantic County, New Jersey!

After making a marathon swim from the north, seals need to haul out to get much-needed rest. The sights and sounds of humans can be stressful and cause seals to go back into the water before they are ready.

Please remember your "seal etiquette" by keeping people and pets at least 150 feet away to allow them to rest undisturbed. Not sure what this distance looks like? Give the seal a "thumbs up"- if you can still see the seal behind your thumb, you're too close! Please help keep seals "incognito" by not sharing their locations on social media.
