Government and Politics

Boston, MA - The Massachusetts Republican Party (MassGOP) today applauded the recent law enforcement operation led by U.S. Border Czar Thomas Homan, which resulted in the arrests of 205 illegal immigrants with significant criminal convictions or charges. The operation, coordinated with ICE and other federal agencies, focused on apprehending individuals involved in violent crime, including drug trafficking, child sexual abuse, and even murder.

MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale issued the following statement in response to the operation:

“This is a textbook example of why it is crucial to keep our communities safe by holding criminals accountable, no matter their immigration status. The efforts of Border Czar Tom Homan, ICE Director and Massachusetts native, Todd Lyons, ICE, and our federal law enforcement partners are commendable. They have removed dangerous criminals from our streets, making Massachusetts a safer place for families. However, Governor Healey and Mayor Wu’s steadfast support for sanctuary policies is placing politics above public safety. Their refusal to cooperate with federal authorities is a direct threat to the safety of our residents, allowing violent offenders to walk free instead of being held accountable.”

“Massachusetts needs leaders who prioritize public safety and work with federal agencies to protect our communities, not ideologues who allow criminals to remain in the Commonwealth. While Governor Healey and Mayor Wu continue to ignore the danger posed by sanctuary policies, the MassGOP remains committed to ensuring that public safety comes first and that law enforcement has the tools and support it needs to do its job,” Carnevale continued.

The operation, which targeted criminal offenders involved with transnational gangs like MS-13 and 18th Street, led to the arrest of foreign fugitives wanted for serious crimes, including homicide. Federal authorities also seized large amounts of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamines, and cocaine, further illustrating the risk posed by sanctuary city policies that fail to work with ICE and other federal agencies.

“Governor Healey and Mayor Wu should be ashamed of their unwavering support for sanctuary policies that endanger the lives of Massachusetts residents. Public safety is not a political issue-it’s a matter of common sense. It’s time to put the safety of our communities above partisan politics,” Carnevale concluded.

The MassGOP remains committed to advocating for policies that support law enforcement, prioritize public safety, and ensure that violent criminals are held accountable-regardless of their immigration status.
