Government and Politics
January 22, 2025
On January 22, 2025, on the 52nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, the Montana Democratic Party is urging statewide lawmakers in Montana, as well as our federal delegation to protect reproductive rights and access to abortion.
“Montana voters made it clear: women should be in charge of making their private decisions about abortion and their healthcare - not the government,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “CI-128 passed decisively last election, and it’s now incumbent upon our state lawmakers and members of Congress to respect the will of their constituents.”
In an interview with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana, Executive Director Martha Fuller laid out her concerns about the future and threats to reproductive freedom, both in Montana and across the country:
“I am worried, of course about the signing and passage of a national abortion ban. That would be devastating across the country,” said Fuller. “I’m actually equally or more worried about work on the federal level that would chip away in the same way that we’ve seen happening at state levels– because that’s more insidious. It takes a while sometimes to notice that there have been attacks on providers, for example.”
“Do I think there’s going to be a national abortion ban? We’ll have to see,” Fuller added. “But will there be attacks on the right to choose our own personal health care decisions and to access abortion across the country? Absolutely there will be.”
