“[GOP] Assembly Minority Leader Greg Hafen said he was not concerned about how the federal budget cuts could impact Nevadans.”

In response to the House Republicans’ plan to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations by cutting Medicaid funding and potentially kicking more than 300,000 Nevadans off their coverage, Nevada’s Republican legislators have decided they don’t care. GOP Assembly Minority Leader said he was “not concerned about how the federal budget cuts could impact Nevadans”, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal, and Joe Lombardo told the Nevada Independent “you can’t” have a contingency plan, offering no solution to the disruption potential cuts could cause working families.

Earlier this month, Democrats in the state senate sent a letter to Lombardo’s administration seeking more information about the impact of proposed cuts to federal funding to Medicaid would have on Nevadans. New reporting has revealed that some of the GOP’s Medicaid cuts would cost the state nearly $1.9 billion over the next two years and kick 300,000 Nevadans off their insurance, doubling the state’s uninsured rate.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:

“Nevadans wondering why Joe Lombardo refuses to stand up against Medicaid cuts for working Nevadans should not be surprised. This is the same governor who vetoed legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs and then received nearly $100,000 in campaign cash from big drug companies. Lombardo and Nevada Republicans know cuts to Medicaid would be devastating for families and our economy, but instead of fighting for working people – they have again sided with billionaires and corporations over Nevadans.”
