RE: Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Governor Buddy MacKay

On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, surrounded by his family, former Governor Buddy MacKay passed away at the age of 91. Former Governor MacKay served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958. He began his over thirty-year career in public service to the State of Florida in 1968 when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. He then served for three terms in the Florida Senate and three terms in the United States House of Representatives. Before serving as the Governor of Florida, MacKay was the Lieutenant Governor of Florida for two terms beginning in 1991.

Former Governor MacKay exemplified dedication to public service and improving the State of Florida. As a mark of respect for former Governor MacKay, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida until sunset on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
