Whats Happening at Methow Arts?

A Burst of Color & Creativity: Alebrijes at Brewster Elementary

Fifth graders at Brewster Elementary recently brought Mexican folk art to life in Methow Arts’ Paper Mâché Creatures: Alebrijes project!

Over three classes, students worked with our Visual Arts Education Specialists & a sculpture artist to design, build, & paint their own vibrant, mythical creatures—each one completely unique.

The results were stunning! From bold colors to imaginative designs, every alebrije carried its own story & symbolism, reflecting the students' creativity & connection to culture, difference, & belonging.

This hands-on experience not only introduced them to foundational sculpture techniques but also celebrated the power of storytelling & tradition.

A huge congratulations to these young artists at Brewster Elementary for their incredible work!
