Adult Ballet
Did you know Mill Ballet School offers an adult ballet class? A drop in class taught by Melissa Roxey that focuses on learning the fundamentals of ballet, there is no experience required and everyone is welcome. Adult ballet is a great workout for the whole body. Ballet is a weight-bearing form of exercise which strengthens muscles, promotes healthy bones and burns calories. Because ballet uses the full range of muscles, it's also great for cognitive functions such as coordination and concentration.
Adult ballet is $20/class and meets Thursdays from 7-8:15 p.m. Email Melissa Roxey with interest or questions at [email protected].
The Benefits of Jazz Classes
As fall sports come to a close and the winter months are not just yet upon us, we encourage students to consider adding a jazz class to promote strength, flexibility, and stamina. Jazz dancing lengthens muscles which increases flexibility and the dancer's range of motion, benefiting their ballet training. Jazz has an energetic, fast pace to it and the rhythmic music will lead to students increasing their stamina and endurance.
Jazz classes are offered at levels 1-3. For placement or if you would like to try a class before registering, please email Melissa Roxey at [email protected].
Roxey Ballet Company Member Profile: Keegan Lloyd
Keegan’s love for ballet was passionate and immediate.
He began his formal dance training at Northwest Florida Ballet Academy under the direction of Todd Eric Allen and Dorothy Daniels Lister in 2016. With their help, hard work and determination, Keegan was able to realize his talents in dance. Later, Keegan attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh where he diversified his dance training and further developed his voice as an artist. He has danced in pieces choreographed by Jessica Lang, Christopher Wheeldon, Edward Liang, Stuart Sebastian and George Balanchine along with many others. Keegan enjoys the physicality of dance and the constant exploration of learning to embody emotions. He strives to create safe spaces where others can embrace the wholeness of who they are and share their human experiences through dance.
Keegan is compelled to share his love for ballet and hopes to inspire goodness in all his interactions on and off the stage. He is inspired by writers, spiritual leaders, his family and music. Keegan is happy to join Roxey Ballet for his first season!
Go Behind the Scenes of Dancing on the Green
Take a peek behind the scenes of Dancing on the Green which was presented at Old York Cellars Winery just a few weeks ago. This unique event took place on a beautiful fall day in early October and was the result of a collaboration with the Hunterdon County Cultural Heritage Commission, the Hunterdon County Office of Economic Development and Tourism, Roxey Ballet Executive Director Mark Roxey, and Old York Cellars.
A special wine label was created for Roxey Ballet using wine as the paint by artist Mark Schreiber and is available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Roxey Ballet.
