Last year, Attorney General Jason Miyares urged Congress to authorize funding for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Fund which provides important services like children’s advocacy centers and sexual assault and domestic violence prevention programs. At the beginning of this year, he proudly announced a $1 million federal grant to enhance law enforcement’s efforts to combat sex trafficking and child labor. Miyares has credited his Ceasefire Virginia program–which partially relies on federal grants–for giving prosecutors more resources to reduce crime across the Commonwealth.
Now these police and public safety programs are frozen by order of Donald Trump and the services they provide are in limbo.
Questions that need to be answered:
Why is Jason Miyares silent about Donald Trump’s freeze on direct funding to these police and public safety services that protect Virginians?
Has he called Trump to protect these funds? Has he asked Youngkin to call Trump?
Do they support freezing funding for law enforcement programs crucial to protecting Virginians?
