From: State Historical Society of North DakotaBISMARCK, N.D. – The public nomination process is open for the 2023 North Dakota Native American Hall of Honor. Located in the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck, the annual ND Native American Hall of Honor program and exhibition recognize Native Americans who have gone above and beyond in representing their tribes and cultures. The program is a partnership of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, and the State Historical Society Foundation.
Traditional and contemporary achievements are recognized in these categories: Arts and Culture, Athletics, Leadership, Legendary, and Military/Veterans. Nominees can be living or in memoriam. Online applications are available at the ND Indian Affairs Commission website. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 17, 2023, at 5 p.m. “This program brings great honor to Native historical and contemporary leaders for their significant contributions. These individuals are the inspiration for future generations,” said Nathan Davis, North Dakota Indian Affairs commissioner. Up to two people per category are accepted into the Hall of Honor each year. The honoring ceremony will be Sept. 7, 2023. Recipients will be featured in the ND Native American Hall of Honor at the State Museum. The exhibition featuring current honorees is now open to the public.
