RALEIGH - The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) announced today its strong support for legal action filed by Judge Jefferson Griffin in the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The petition seeks a writ of mandamus compelling the N.C. State Board of Elections (NCSBE) to issue a final decision by Tuesday, December 10 on outstanding election protests in the N.C. Supreme Court contest.

“Judge Griffin has led efforts to seek clarity and accountability while the State Board has been dragging its feet. The people of North Carolina deserve clarity and confidence in the electoral process,” said NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons. “Judge Griffin has taken an important step in ensuring that the State Board fulfills its responsibility to act promptly, resolve these protests, and uphold the integrity of our elections.”

Judge Griffin’s petition asks the Court of Appeals to compel the NCSBE to render its final decision on the protests by Dec. 10, ensuring that parties can pursue further judicial review before election certification.

The legal filing continues to highlight ongoing issues with over 60,000 ballots cast by voters who did not meet North Carolina's constitutional or statutory voting requirements. Despite having jurisdiction over the election protests, the State Board has delayed its decision-making process, undermining public trust in the outcome of the election.

In addition to its responsibility to adjudicate these protests, the NCSBE has also failed to act on the clear conflict of interest of one of the five board members.
