NCGOP Calls for Disqualification of State Board Member in Griffin-Riggs Election Dispute

The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) supports Judge Jefferson Griffin's motion to disqualify N.C. State Board of Elections member Siobhan Millen from participating in election protests involving the 2024 Associate Justice race for the North Carolina Supreme Court. The motion raises serious concerns about a conflict of interest due to Ms. Millen's marriage to Pressly Millen, a partner at Womble Bond Dickinson, which represents Justice Allison Riggs in these disputes.

“This motion is about ensuring integrity and impartiality in the election process,” said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer. “The facts demonstrate a clear conflict of interest that undermines public confidence in the impartiality of the State Board.”

The motion highlights the following issues:

- Pressly Millen’s leadership role in Justice Riggs’ legal team creates a familial and financial connection that compromises Ms. Millen's objectivity.

- The Millen household stands to benefit financially through Mr. Millen’s partnership at Womble Bond Dickinson.

- State law and judicial ethics require Ms. Millen to recuse herself to protect due process and public trust in the electoral process.

The NCGOP calls on the NCSBE to take swift and decisive action to ensure impartial proceedings. “The people of North Carolina deserve to have confidence in the fairness of their elections. Recusing Ms. Millen is a necessary step to safeguard this trust,”added Mercer.
