On May 11, 2025, House Republicans unveiled their budget that included vast cuts to Medicaid in order to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. Trump’s budget is designed to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and large corporations by cutting over $700 billion from Medicaid and other health care funding and kicking nearly 9 million people off their health care, according to analysis from the Congressional Budget Office. This will negatively impact thousands of hardworking Nevadans. The Assistant GOP Leader of the Nevada Senate said cuts to Medicaid, Social Security and Medicare are “fair game” as part of Republican efforts to pass Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires and giant corporations.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“Nevadans wondering why Joe Lombardo refuses to take a serious stand against Medicaid cuts for working Nevadans should not be surprised. This is the same governor who vetoed legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs and then received nearly $100,000 in campaign cash from big drug companies. Lombardo and Nevada Republicans know cuts to Medicaid would be devastating for families and our economy, but instead of fighting for working people - they have again sided with billionaires and corporations over Nevadans.”
