-Blueberry Recipe Contest
The North Carolina Blueberry Festival Recipe Contest will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 beginning at 9:00am at the Historic Burgaw Depot located at 115 South Dickerson Street.
Blueberry Recipe Contest Rules
1. The contest will be divided into the following 5 categories:
• Appetizers, Salads, Entrees, Side Dishes
• Breads (biscuits, muffins, loaves, scones, etc.)
• Desserts
• Miscellaneous (jellies, jams, non-alcoholic beverages, sauces, pancakes, etc.)
• Youth: All ages up to 15
*Contest entries made with King Arthur flour are eligible for additional prizes. See #9 below.
2. Each entry must be original and contain at least 1 cup of fresh North Carolina blueberries.
3. Winning recipes from previous years may not be entered.
4. You may enter more than one category and enter as many recipes as you want in each category.
5. Entries will be judged on taste, appeal, originality, creativity, presentation, and ease of preparation.
6. All recipes must be typed and submitted with your entry. The participant’s name, address and telephone number must be included in the upper right-hand corner of the recipe page on 8-1/2 x 11-inch white paper. The correct ingredients, correct sizes and amounts of ingredients and method of preparation must be listed. The recipe becomes the property of the North Carolina Blueberry Festival Association and StarNews Media.
7. Prepared recipe dishes will be received at the Burgaw Depot on Friday, June 14th between 9:00am and 11:00am. Judging will take place from 11:30am until 12:30pm. The exhibit will be closed to the public during judging. Participants may collect their dishes from 1-2pm.
8. Winners of each category will be awarded the following prizes:
1st Place – $200 & Ribbon
2nd Place – $75 & Ribbon
3rd Place – $25 & Ribbon
A “Best of the Best” recipe will be chosen from the 1st place winners in each category and awarded an additional prize of $100 and ribbon.
9. Baked goods made with King Arthur brand flour are eligible for the following prizes, in addition to the recipe contest prizes listed above. In order to qualify for these prizes, participants must bring the UPC seal from their bag of King Arthur flour.
1st – $75 King Arthur Gift Card
2nd – $50 King Arthur Gift Card
3rd – $25 King Arthur Gift Card
10. Winners will be announced at the 21st Annual NC Blueberry Festival on Saturday, June 15th during the Opening Ceremony beginning at 12 Noon.

A community favorite, this race has become a tradition for local runners and walkers. Come out and show your support for the North Carolina Blueberry Festival by participating in the 5K Blueberry Run & 1 Mile Walk. The race starts and ends in Historic Downtown Burgaw and provides runners a rare opportunity to enjoy the picturesque small town

This cycling event is a great way to connect with other riders across our city, our region and the world. It's also a great way to give back out our community! This year, Cape Fear Cyclists raised over $20,000! Proceeds are donated to Burgaw Middle School, the North Carolina Blueberry Festival Scholarship Program, the Hampstead Hams, and the Terry Benjey Bicycling Foundation.

-Fresh Local Blueberries and Flavors
Find fresh local blueberries and berry-flavored foods at the North Carolina Blueberry Festival! Farm fresh blueberries are provided by local farmers from Southeastern North Carolina counties including Pender, New Hanover, Sampson, Bladen, and Duplin. Bake sales by local churches and a variety of items from food vendors offer blueberry treats as well!
-NC Blueberry Farm Tours
We will be offering tours of the research farm located in Castle Hayne, NC led by researchers from NC State University! They will discuss the work they do to develop new blueberry varieties as well as the work being done to study and improve the health and nutritional value of blueberries, blueberry plant breeding, variety selection, pest management and harvest practices. After your tour, you'll come back to Burgaw, NC to enjoy the rest of the day at the 21st Annual NC Blueberry Festival.
