Dear Friends, 2023 marks the eighth year since the Northwest Ukrainian International Festival took place for the first time. Since its beginning, this annual event became a highlight not only for the Ukrainian community, but also for the Washington State community at large. 2023 is a very hard year for all the Ukrainians and people of goodwill – Russia invaded Ukraine with massive rocket attacks all over the territory of Ukraine. As the result, thousands of innocent civilians were killed. But Ukrainians are fighting back courageously. Although the sacrifice of lives is great. Ukraine is not stopping in protecting of people, values, principles, and land. One may say that it is not a good time to do a festival at such a tragic time, but when is not a good time to share values, speak about what the people of Ukraine are going through, building bridges with other communities, and to pray to God for protection from evil. We hope that the festival will be a celebration of Ukraine’s victory, but even if Ukraine will still be fighting the enemy, there is a good reason to get together and celebrate all the good that we have had and will be having in the future, to honor the heroes that are fighting for future.
Ukraine has a rich history that has brought many wonderful traditions to our families, some of which we would like to share with you at the festival. It is my privilege to invite you to the event and experience many activities your family can enjoy together - from our real trout fishing pond, children’s inflatables, and sports competitions to our Ukrainian vyshyvanka dress competition and raffle, we seek to celebrate Ukrainian culture together. I trust that you will be able to have a wonderful time and enjoy beautiful music and performances, authentic Ukrainian food and drinks, and the numerous activities offered at this event.
