April 12, 2025

Thomas Lucid Groves III, age 62, beloved husband of Jill Nowell Groves of Middlebury, died suddenly on April 11, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on August 28, 1962, he was the son of Thomas Lucid Groves, Jr. and his late wife Joan Gendron Groves. Tom was raised in Stratford and was a proud 1980 graduate of Bunnell High School. His strong work ethic and determination carried him through a long and successful career at Sikorsky, where he worked for over 40 years. Climbing the ranks through various roles, he was most recently promoted to Senior Manager—an achievement that reflected both his commitment and leadership.

A Naugatuck resident for most of his life, Tom was a dedicated Union City Little League coach for his sons. With his strong coaching skills, deep love for the game, and unwavering encouragement, he consistently led his teams to success—always bringing home wins.

As his sons grew older, Tommy naturally shifted roles, becoming an enthusiastic coach and proud supporter of his grandchildren. He found immense joy in cheering them on from the sidelines, never missing a chance to support them on the field.

Tom was a lifelong lover of practical jokes, joyful celebrations with friends, and always ready to lend a hand as the family handyman. He found great satisfaction in tinkering with home renovations and was always eager to teach others how to "do it yourself," whether it was around the house or under the hood of a car.

A passionate cook, Tom loved sharing his favorite family recipes and passing down his kitchen skills to the younger generation. One of his most cherished traditions was making his signature stuffed cherry peppers each year with his daughter.

An avid snowmobiler, Tom treasured countless adventures in the Vermont snow with his close-knit group of buddies. Yet, above all, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, friends, and beloved pets—especially the family's newest addition, their kitty, Hemmy.

In addition to Jill, his spouse of 40 years, he is survived by his father, Tom, his stepmother, Mary Ann Aquila Groves, and his devoted children, Thomas J. Giambra and his wife Ashleigh of Thomaston, William R. Giambra and his wife, Melinda of Prospect and Shannon J. Groves of Middlebury; sister, Sharon G. Brezina and her husband, David of Seymour; brother, Richard A. Groves of Monroe; cherished grandchildren, Peighton and Madison Giambra of Thomaston and Tyler and Jordan Giambra of Prospect.

Uncle Tommy will be fondly remembered by all his fun loving nieces and nephews; as well as his father-in-law, John T. Nowell of Shelton.

In addition to his mother, Tom was predeceased by a sister, Terri A. Groves and mother-in-law, June Rose Nowell.
