Iowa Representatives and Senators Look to Gut Medicaid

Des Moines – On March 18th, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart released the following statement in response to Republicans’ plan to trade Iowans’ health care in for billionaire tax breaks:

“Iowa’s seniors and Iowa’s children – especially those in rural communities rely on Medicaid funding to access the health care coverage they need. Instead of protecting and strengthening that care, Iowa’s Republican Representatives are trying to push through a budget that could put Medicaid on the chopping block for over 600,000 Iowans so they can gift tax breaks to billionaires. 

Whether it be on Medicaid Day of Action or November 3, 2026, Democrats will stand with Iowans every day as we hold Republicans accountable for trying to defund health care to pay for their giveaway to billionaires.”
