“[A]s a candidate for governor, he appealed to the Republican base by downplaying the threat posed by untraceable weapons”
One year ago, an unearthed video and investigation caught Joe Lombardo blatantly lying while courting the far-right gun lobby on the campaign trail in 2021, when he significantly downplayed the number of untraceable, unregulated weapons known as ghost guns confiscated by law enforcement in Las Vegas. While in a competitive GOP primary for governor, Lombardo told a right-wing gun lobbying group that only six ghost guns had been seized by police - a lie that was uncovered when records showed it was actually hundreds.
Once in office, Lombardo attempted to roll back and veto popular, bipartisan pieces of legislation aimed at criminal justice reform, reducing recidivism, and protecting Nevada families, law enforcement officers, and communities by banning untraceable ghost guns.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“As we’ve said all along, Joe Lombardo is a corrupt politician willing to do or say anything to win, including lying about the threat ghost guns pose to our communities to court the support of the far-right gun lobby.”
