Opera Festival: A Zine Opera, by ChanJi Kim and Keri Lee Pierson
Opera Festival / Contemporary Classical Series: The Zine Opera – a chamber opera about Women, by Women, set in the world’s best living room concert hall, transformed into a European opera house for the occasion.
The Zine Opera is a fun and intriguing new chamber opera, created through the collaboration between ChanJi Kim (composer) and Keri Lee Pierson (soprano and librettist).
Join singer Keri Lee Pierson and pianist Sofía Cardi Bonfil as they tell the fictional story of Liz, a 1990s historian working in the archives of a library and uncovering the stories of pioneering women featured in Fanzines. The narratives will make you laugh and compel you to reflect, and maybe will even remind you of someone you love. Although the women are mostly fiction, they are based on real people of history and some personal stories of the creators.

Opera Festival: Mozart and Salieri with Musical Traditions
Opera Festival: Timucua is known to everyone as the world’s best living room concert hall. With the help of our ACS system, we transform it into a world-class European opera house.
Musical Traditions Inc. is the brainchild of Aleksandra Vargas, Sergei Kossenko, and others. They aim to bring high-quality vocal musical performances to Central Florida.
Here, they perform a chamber version of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s one-act opera: Mozart and Salieri.
Few relationships in history have captured the public’s imagination like that of composers Mozart and Salieri. Mozart, a child prodigy who’s natural gifts propelled him to the height of fame, and Salieri, a self made man overshadowed by his portent colleague. Letters between the two men reveal a cordial professional relationship of mutual respect. However, the two men were rivals, and the controversy surrounding Mozart’s death, fueled rumors of a more sinister dynamic. This one-act opera explores one theory of this infamous association that led to a tragic end for both men. It is sung in the English translation of the Russian libretto taken almost verbatim from Alexander Pushkin’s 1830 verse drama of the same name. This opera is a thought provoking drama that will leave the audience wondering “what if….”.

Opera Festival: Helena Collective: 6/VIII: The Six Wives of Henry VIII
Opera Festival: We transform the world’s best living room concert hall into an opera house for our first Opera Festival.
The Helena Collective is a group of women with incredible voices, which started its life at Timucua, and continues to bring us into their world with music composed and performed from the point of view of women.
Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. Revel in the bliss and misery of marriage as the six ill-fated queens of the second Tudor king share their experiences of matrimony and acrimony in song, poetry, and spoken word. Featuring members of local vocal ensemble The Helena Collective as the queens, take a journey with each of Henry the VIII’s wives with music selections by Libby Larson, Hildegard von Bingen, Praetorius, and more.
The Helena Collective’s award-winning production, 6/VIII: The Six Wives of Henry VIII, originally produced by Opera Orlando for the 2019 Orlando Fringe Festival, will be remounted for Timucua’s inaugural Opera Festival. This original work is a powerful musical exploration of the stories of Henry VIII’s wives. Through a blend of classical and contemporary vocal works, the concert brings to life the diverse experiences of Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, and Catherine Howard, portraying their strength, struggles, and resilience. With a stunning vocal repertoire for soloists and ensemble and a compelling narrative, 6/VIII is an evocative celebration of history’s most famous royal wives.
A strong, compelling performance in Timucua’s unparalleled acoustics.
