Nashville, TN – On Feb 18th, Gov. Bill Lee traveled to Montgomery and Obion counties to survey storm damage and meet with impacted communities following severe weather and flooding that swept through the state on February 15. Accompanied by Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) Director Patrick Sheehan and Congressman David Kustoff, the Governor viewed damage and met with local officials.

“While Tennesseans in Montgomery and Obion counties face a long road to recovery after severe flooding, we are encouraged to see how the communities have come together to serve their neighbors in this time of need,” said Gov. Lee. “Maria and I continue to lift all those impacted up in prayer and thank state and local officials, law enforcement, first responders and road crews for their quick response. Damage assessments are underway to determine the best path forward to support local recovery efforts.”

“I have been closely monitoring the situation in Rives and remain in constant communication with local and state officials,” said Congressman Kustoff. “Roberta and I will continue to keep the families affected y this devastating flooding in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you to the first responders and various law enforcement officers for working diligently to evacuate and secure the area. In the coming days, I encourage everyone to remain vigilant, follow local guidance, and stay safe. I am committed to doing all I can on the federal level to help our community rebuild and recover.”

Local jurisdictions and the American Red Cross have opened overnight shelters in impacted areas. Additionally, due to below freezing temperatures, many counties are establishing warming centers. For the most up to date shelter locations and warming centers, visit TEMA’s website.
