AN INTERVIEW WITH OUR ACTOR OF THE WEEK:
NICO ROTH
Introduce yourself, and tell us how old you are!
Nico Roth, 17
Why do you love theatre?
I love theater because people spend all day being themselves and for just a little bit of time, you get to become someone else and see a situation from that perspective.
How long have I been at Poison Apple?
I have been at Poison Apple for 13 years. I was just a supporter watching my older sister until I auditioned for my first show in 2011.
What has been your favorite show that you've performed in?
I think my favorite show that I have performed in was Mary Poppins in 2018. Being in the ensemble for that show is truly an experience worth a lifetime.
Can you tell us about a moment onstage when something didn't go as planned? How did it turn out?
Yes of course. During Seussical in 2016, Horton and Gertrude were in a really intense love song about being noticed and my character was supposed to watch intently. This is the moment that I learned that I could hold in my sneezes. I only learned after the first one rang through the house.
What's one piece of advice you'd like to give to someone stepping onstage for the first time?
I think the best piece of advice I can give is also the simplest: Just have relax. Acting and Musical theater won’t be any fun for you if you are tense and stressed out.
Is there anyone you'd like to give a shout-out to for supporting you on your acting journey?
I think most people know how much they’ve done for me over that last decade but people who might not know and I would like to shout out are: Zach Galvaro, Logan Brubaker, and Brittany Finley. All of these people have showed me unmeasurable love and support.
Tell us the shows you have participated in with Poison Apple!
I feel like I’ve done so many shows that it might be an activity to try and remember all of them. I have been in a couple of shows that most people may not have heard of like A Three Leaf Clover, Dunnit by Who?, and The Thirteenth Seat at the Round Table.
To be chosen as the actor of the week, actors need to be enthusiastic, positive and dedicated to the Poison Apple acting program. We’re highlighting individuals who are team players, supportive, encouraging, and inspiring to their peers! Not only that, but they embrace themselves onstage in every performance no matter the size of the role.
