A Note from Saint Columbkille

Dear Saint Columbkille families and friends,

Today, December 21, is the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year. But, it’s all about perspective. It is also the longest night of the year. I was reminded of how important the darkness is from a 3rd grade student just last week.

As I came out the front door of the school, I complained about how early it gets dark. Katherine shared with me that this time of year, the darkness allows us to see all the beautiful Christmas lights. What an amazing way to look at the literal bright side. Since that evening, I have welcomed the early darkness and I think about how lucky we all are to enjoy Christmas lights each night.

Christmas lights symbolize that Jesus is the light of the world. We will do well to remember how important it is to shift our perspective and appreciate that a little darkness allows us to see the light.

“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.” John 12:46

We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
