From: San Diego Natural History MuseumCheck Out These Owlsome Birding Events
There’s still time to have a real hoot!
Two birding events have come and gone, but we still have two more chances to get outside and admire our feathery friends. (Let’s be real, we always have more chances to observe our nature neighbors.)
Cozy up near your window with a computer or smartphone and participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count. You don’t even need binoculars.
Join the week-long festival that covers all things birds in San Diego! Enjoy a variety of activities like birding field trips, garden expos, lectures from well-known voices in the birding community, and more.
Speaking of Bird Stuff...
This is REALLY cool.
Picture eastern San Diego about 1,500 years ago. Water steadily flowing through what is known today as Spring Valley, lush landscape, and warm Mediterranean climate—similar to what we see today. So, why was an arctic bird bone found in an old refuse pile from the Netí village? Read our latest blog to find out.

The first Nat Talk of 2023 is here.
Join us on January 24 at 7 PM for the first Nat Talk of the year. We are kicking it off with 9th Circuit Judge M. Margaret McKeown, as she explores the politics and ethics of advocacy by U.S. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, as discussed in her new book, Citizen Justice. Books will be available for purchase at the event and can be signed by Judge McKeown after the talk.
Since you have your calendar out, save the date for another Nat Talk on Tuesday, February 28 at 7 PM. Mammalogist Scott Tremor will be sharing how scientists at The Nat and elsewhere use camera traps to study and help wildlife. This talk is an extension of our newest exhibition, Caught on Camera.
