From: San Diego Natural History MuseumOur Exhibits Are Cool AND Sustainable
The greener the better.
This beautiful place we call home is absolutely amazing, so we take protecting it pretty seriously. Our mission to take good care of the natural world extends to exhibits themselves. From flooring to zero-VOC paint to LED lighting, sustainability is a driving force behind the development of every exhibition. Learn how our Exhibits Team is building exhibitions sustainably in our latest blog.
Hang Out With Us All Month Long
Half-price days or after-work hangouts!
February is almost here, and you know what that means...Museum Month! During the entire month of February, you can enjoy half-price admission for up to four people when you present a (free!) Museum Month pass at entry. You can pick up a printed pass at local libraries starting January 26 (find a list of participating libraries here) and online passes will be available starting February 6 on the San Diego Museum Council website.
We are also excited to announce Nat at Night is back for 2023—and it's not just for summer anymore! On the third Friday of every month, we'll be open until 10 PM so you can explore the museum after hours. Mark your calendar—the first event is Friday, February 17. Enjoy access to all exhibitions, programming, and activities on select dates, and our rooftop deck for good views, signature cocktails, and delicious small plates from Wolf in the Woods.
Don’t forget, members of The Nat and Explorer pass holders receive free general admission to Nat at Night.
Cheers to 50 Years
Our Canyoneers are celebrating their 50th anniversary!
It’s no secret hiking is one of San Diego’s favorite pastimes. Over 1,000 trails crisscross our county, and more than a dozen hiking books are dedicated to our region.
How did it come to this? We like to think the Canyoneers had something to do with it.
Originally named for Florida Canyon, the Canyoneers trail guide group formed in 1973 to connect city-dwellers with the native flora and fauna still thriving in Balboa Park. Fifty years later, the Canyoneers still offer something special and hard to find elsewhere in the United States: expert-led nature tours around the county completely free of charge.
Congratulations are in order because, in 2023, the Canyoneers are celebrating 50 years of connecting San Diegans with nature in our region.
In Case You Didn’t Know
We offer free admission programs.
Science and nature is for everyone, and here at The Nat we want to make sure that cost isn’t a barrier to experiencing the Museum. We offer a variety of free admission programs including Museums for All, Resident Free Days, and more.
