Listen and learn all about these cool critters
The Nat's Curator of Herpetology Brad Hollingsworth was interviewed for the Golden State Naturalist podcast, which ranks at the top 1% of podcasts globally.
Brad talks about the binational conservation efforts surrounding the threatened California red-legged frog, his road to becoming a herpetologist, frog jumping competitions (yes, really), and so much more. Give it a listen here or on your favorite listening platform.
Last Call For Canyoneers Hikes This Season!
Get your last hikes in before their summer hiatus
T-minus one month until our Canyoneers’ last hike on Saturday, June 21. That’s right, our amazing hiking guides take a summer hiatus, so sign up to join them outside before then.
Outings for the next month include Cleveland National Forest, Tierrasanta Greenbelt, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and so many more.
The Canyoneers program is made possible with support from dedicated volunteers and proud partner Subaru of America.
Get Closer Than Ever to Our Scientific Research
Our brand-new exhibition brings science and discovery to you
Learn about the research The Nat's scientists are spearheading—from medical discoveries to local conservation projects, all of which have their foundation in our research collections.
You'll also get the chance to see our new Paleontology Center, where you can interact with scientists actively cleaning and preparing fossils from around San Diego. Guess what? You'll also get to peek into the collection where they're stored.
Check it all out in our brand-new exhibition, Amazement in the Basement, opening to the public on Friday, June 6.

We're screening Human Footprint at The Nat
The second season of Human Footprint premieres June 25 on PBS platforms nationwide, and you’re invited to a sneak preview of one of the episodes!

Blue Whale Season is Fast Approaching
We have the boat, what else do you really need?
Blue whales are the largest animal on earth—they can grow up to 100 feet long and its aorta (the main blood vessel) is large enough for a human to crawl through.
We're lucky enough to see these gentle giants just off the coast of San Diego, and they're most often seen in San Diego starting mid-June through September. Join Legacy Whale Watch to experience them up close.
Nat Geo Visited Our Museum
Yeah, it was cool
The Nat was featured in a National Geographic travel article and video all about San Diego (and our undeniable charm).
We had the pleasure of hosting special guests NatGeo photographer Kiliii Yüyan and explorer Albert Lin as they walked through our exhibits, got a sneak peek of our soon-to-come Paleo Center, and enjoyed our Nature Trail.
