Help Bring San Francisco Opera Productions to Life on the War Memorial Opera House Stage—No Previous Experience Required

San Francisco, CA -- Have you ever dreamed of being on the War Memorial Opera House stage? San Francisco Opera is looking for adult supernumeraries (extras) to appear in the Company’s upcoming summer and fall operas. An open call will be held on Wednesday, April 30 from 4:30–7:30 p.m. at the Company’s Wilsey Center for Opera located on the 4th floor of the War Memorial Veterans Building (401 Van Ness Ave.). Previous experience is not required.

Supers are needed to rehearse and perform in the following San Francisco Opera productions:

-- La Bohème, Giacomo Puccini’s beloved opera about love and loss among a group of Parisian artists (Summer 2025)

-- Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, one of the most popular and powerful operas in the repertoire, which opens Company’s 103rd season (Fall 2025)

-- The 25th-anniversary presentation of Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s Dead Man Walking. Commissioned by San Francisco Opera and originally premiered in October 2000, the opera is based on the best-selling memoir following Sister Helen Prejean’s spiritual journey as she ministers to a condemned man on death row.

Supernumeraries, also known as “supers,” act as extras (in costume and make-up) on the stage in non-speaking, non-singing roles. Supers have the unparalleled opportunity to work alongside some of the most acclaimed artists in the world and help bring San Francisco Opera’s dazzling productions to life on the stage of the historic War Memorial Opera House.
