Santa Rosa County 4-H members had a strong showing at this year’s Northwest Florida Chick Chain Show, the finale of a six-month project where youth raise baby chicks into laying hens.
In the Avian Adventures public speaking category, Alison Collier placed fourth in the Junior Division. Julia Mashack took third in the Intermediate Division, while her brother, Andrew Mashack, earned first place in the Senior Division.
Santa Rosa youth also excelled in Showmanship, which tests participants' handling skills and poultry knowledge. Alison Collier placed fifth in the Junior Division. In the Intermediate Division, Julia Mashack came in second and Gabe Gonzalez placed fifth. Andrew Mashack secured another first-place win in the Senior Division.
Gabe Gonzalez also earned second place in the Intermediate Photography category and Abbie Collier received a Clover Bud ribbon for showing her silver Sebright hen.
